Why are sports so popular
The fact that popularity varies from sport to sport is probably not worth discussing. It is also clear that it varies from country to country. For example, in our country, soccer and hockey are popular, while in the United States, for example, it is American football and rugby. But how do sports become popular and how do they fall out of favor?
First and foremost, it needs to be dynamic and basically always have something happening on the field. That is the main thing, and the main point, is to attract the interest of the spectators. That is why, for example, cross-country races, especially interval races, are never popular. Nothing interesting happens, at least from the spectator\’s point of view. Hockey, on the other hand, always has someone with the puck and a goal can be scored at any moment. No wonder it is more interesting for the spectators.
However, there are many similar sports, most of which are not widely watched. So there must be some other factor. And indeed, there is something else that is necessary for popularity, and that is media coverage, especially in a positive way. The more a sport is covered on television, the more it permeates the public consciousness, the more people learn about it, and the more important it becomes to people.
Of course, at every level, everything also depends on money. Every sport wants to attract as many fans as possible, but not everyone can afford the necessary media coverage. But not everyone can afford the necessary media coverage. This essentially creates a monopoly that is not easy to beat.
But why is it that sports are losing popularity? There could be several reasons. Most often, there is some kind of scandal that breaks out or a constant failure of the team at the international level. For example, few people would watch the World Cup if the national team did not even participate. That would be a shame.
